Ah, sunlight! Was there a more glorious thing? The bright golden rays streamed down from the sky, making themselves at home in Amberheart's ginger pelt. On such a day, a cat such as Amberheart seemed to shine like the sun itself.
He walked, slowly across the fallen log that was a bridge to the other side of the Dreampool. Around him his Clan mates whispered and stared, had he really saved the clan? Just like that? Their cheers welcomed him, as he strutted up to his beloved leader.
"I am proud of you, Amberheart," began Russetstar, "you have showed courage beyond that of-"
"Amberheart! Amberheart get up!" a pesky little voice rudely interrupted his glory. Blinking, Amberheart tried to make out the blurry figure in front of him. His eyes adjusted, revealing the dappled brown she-cat he already knew had awoken him.
"Get up you lazy lump of fur! It's nearly sunhigh!"
Reluctantly, Amberheart, one paw at a time, rose to his feet. "What do you want?" he grumbled, slurring his words slightly as he set to work on his tangled fur.
"For you to get up, you useless bad of bones!" Yes, that was Sequoiafeather, always careful with her words.
"I'm up," meowed Amberheart, attempting to wash his face, but due to the fact he wasn't really aware of his surroundings yet he only just missed clawing his eye out. Deciding he could do that later Amberheart attempted to stand on all four legs.
"It's about time!" Meowed Sequoiafeather, exasperated. "Can you believe I thought you had gone out already? I've been looking all around camp for you thinking you must have left without me, and now I find you in bed dreaming away..." Amberheart blocked out her ranting. Yes, it had been a good dream too, though he couldn't quite remember how the whole thing had started. Ah well, it had ended well.
Or it would have if he had been left to finish it.
"All morning! And you were just snoozing, like you've been working hard or anything, I mean- Amberheart! Come on!"
She seemed to be expecting him to follow her, Amberheart half wished he had been paying attention to what she was saying, no doubt she would want to know later. After a few shaking moments of getting used to his weight, Amberheart padded after his sister into the SnowClan camp.
Ah, sunlight! The cursed sunlight! Why did it half to be so bright and light and blinding? Amberheart froze once more, waiting for his eyes to adjust to the new light. With once last wistful glance at his warm nest, Amberheart padded after his sister to the fresh-kill pile.
